Green Chromis (Chromis viridis)

The Green Chromis is a small, peaceful schooling fish popular in reef aquariums. Native to the Indo-Pacific, it is commonly found around coral reefs where it hovers above branching corals in groups.

It has a slim, oval-shaped body with a shimmering blue-green to emerald coloration that reflects light beautifully. The tail is slightly forked, often appearing darker or edged in black. Adults typically reach about 3–4 inches (7–10 cm) in length.

Green Chromis are known for their calm temperament and do well in groups, where they display natural schooling behavior. They are active swimmers but non-aggressive, making them excellent community fish.

In aquariums, they require stable water conditions, open swimming space, and some rockwork for shelter. They are planktivores, feeding on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and high-quality pellets or flakes. Hardy and reef-safe, Green Chromis are well suited for beginner reef keepers and add constant movement and color to a marine tank.
